The All-American Invitational (AAI) Tournament is one of the summer regional qualifying tournaments sanctioned by the National Baseball Congress (NBC). The winner of this round robin regional gets $7,000 and a low seeding into the NBC Summer College World Series in Wichita, Kansas in early August. The entrance fee is $1,100.

A total of 48 teams compete in the NBC Summer World Series in Wichita over a two-week period in early August. It is a double elimination tournament played at two stadiums.

The Angels play Thursday July 15- 5pm

Friday July 16- 10am

Saturday July 17- 3pm

The map above right shows a full-day road trip up Highway 5 to Portland.

The map at right shows the vicinity of Portland. The route in green shows the locations of the airport, the college where the games take place, and the alternative lodging.

The area has lots of summer activities to enjoy during  the full day between the second and third games.

Players buy their own meals.

 

Tournament fee is $1,100- deadline was July 2.

 

Lodging:

Overnight on route to Portland

$50 x 5 rooms x 1 night = $250.

 

Hampton is the official hotel of the tournament.

$77 x 5 rooms x 3nights = $1,155.

The Hampton has swimming pools, free breakfast, etc.

 

The Golden Knight ain't fancy. It got nothing.

$50 x 5 rooms x 3 nights = $750.

 

 

Van transportation

Drive to Portland and back:

Depart 9pm Wednesday, July 14, 2004

Return late Sunday, July 18, 2004 or when eliminated

Duration: About 10 1/2 hours, 650 miles.

 

Van costs:

 1400 miles/17mi/gallon = 83 gallons

    x $2.50/gallon = $208 x 2 vans = $416

 

Airfare

For pitchers:

1st game pitcher $130 (return flight)

Two Sunday pitchers $260 (arrival flights)

 

In order to arrive in time for the first game at Mt. Hood Community College at 5pm vs. the Seattle Studs,

players would have to leave the Bay Area no later than 5am Thursday.

Excerpts from the rules:

 

  • Strict 25-man rosters submitted two weeks before the tournament.

 

  • At least 15 players must suit up for each game, in complete uniform with no duplicate numbers, arrive at least 30 minutes before game time, at which time teams flip a coin for home team and submit their lineups.

 

  • Three 4-team pools, playing three 7-inning games each. The pool winners and a wild card advance to Sunday's semi-finals. Semi-finals and championship games are 9 innings. Pool games have a 10-run mercy rule after 5 innings. Final Four games have no mercy rule.

 

  • No protests. Umpires decisions stand.

 

  • Tie-breaker after head-to-head is least runs allowed.
