Another Scoreboard Wrong- Heaven Is Outraged: "My Angels Scored 3 in the 6th, Not 2!"
TCUP Stadium scoreboard's got it wrong, Mudcats get the billing, guest Angels grab an 8-4 win. Jarian White again messes the Mudcats to seal victory. Friday May 9- Travis Credit Union Field (TCUP), Vacaville- The Angels rolled to an 8-4 victory against the host Solano Mudcats, evening their record to 2-2 against them. Centerfielder Colin Stewart's (ex-minor leaguer, Atlanta Braves) bases-clearing triple in the 6th inning secured the win for the Angels. Shortstop and cleanup hitter Mike Ryan drove in three runs and third baseman Jake Holt (ex-Hayward State) doubled and singled, driving in two runs. Pitcher Ben Smith (SF State redshirt) started for San Francisco and turned the lead over to Christian Aguirre (Sonoma State) in the 5th inning. Southpaw Jarian White (Sonoma State redshirt) finished the game with another three innings of scoreless relief.

Matt Flaherty works flawlessly against the Athletics. Saturday May 10- Renfree Field, Sacramento- The Angels took a 4-0 lead into the 5th inning of a 7-inning first game against the Sacramento Athletics. Starter Matt Flaherty (ex-SF State) held the Athletics hitless through four innings, but the change of pitchers in the 5th led to a team collapse on defense and a 5-4 loss. The errors continued in the 9 innings of the 2nd game, but the strong offense and some gutsy pitching at the end by a tiring Marc Caviglia (SF City College) earned the Angels a 9-8 victory and a split of the doubleheader. Caviglia threw the final four innings in relief of starter Robert Salini (Sonoma State redshirt). Leadoff hitter Colin Stewart scored three runs, while Dano Kingman (ex-SF State), Jake Holt, and Jarian White had three hits apiece.

Saturday night, April 26: 6'7" Angels pitcher Robert Salini (Sonoma State redshirt) stands guard at third base. Later he will catch a line shot by Angel batter Dan Kingman (ex-SF State). But aren't they on the same team? Well, yes, but Ivan the Terrible Davis brought only 6 players to oppose us, so we thought it would be more fair to let Salini play third for them. Actually, we gave them a pitcher, a catcher, and a Salini. Ivan also borrowed a glove from us. We won 7-0. Ivan's Six have now been removed from our list of premier wood bat summer teams. April 26 game scoresheets were discarded.
Sunday night, April 27: Rain-soaked game with the Mudcats was tied 5-5 when rains postponed the finish until May 4. The Angels took a 5-3 lead in the 3rd inning when centerfielder Colin Stewart (ex-Sonoma State) was safe on an error and then streaked around and scored by stealing bases and forcing errors by the frightened defense. The 4-run rally was also highlighted by first baseman Mike Mukuno's (ex-SF State) double into the right-field corner. Solano County's own umpire Randy Quinn helped the Mudcats rally back by bending the right field line 15 feet, authorizing 2 runs to score on a foul ball.
Tournament games on Saturday, May 3 were washed out, and moved to Sunday, May 4: Against the Novato Knicks, Angels third baseman Jake Holt's (ex-Hayward State) two-run double in the sixth inning tied the game 4-4, and Esteban Contreras' (ex-San Diego CC) deep flyball single over the centerfielder's head won it in the bottom of the 7th, 5-4. Winning pitcher was Jerame Nelson (ex-Hayward State), who an hour later lost a one-inning continuation of the April 27 tie, 6-5, due largely to a shortage of regular position players. The pitchers are happy to contribute as needed in all capacities, and all positions.
