The San Francisco Angels get in the thick of things early. Ten tough league games in May. Memorial Weekend at Golden Gate Park and in Salinas, a Wednesday June 2 twilight game at SF State, then a plane trip early Friday to Seattle, Washington for 4 games in Wenatchee and Portland.
The Wenatchee AppleSox is a strong team with an enthusiastic fan base. They finished 3-2 last year in Wichita, after winning the championship tournament of the Pacific International League. We played them last year in the second week of June. The Cardinals apparently are just a bunch of Hoods. Friends and families are invited on this trip, and are encouraged to help us with the van transportation. We have reserved four minivans at a discount price. Contact the Travel Director at 415-552-6117.
The Angels will meet at 5:30am on Friday morning June 4 at San Francisco International to begin a weekend trip to Seattle and Wenatchee, Washington, and Gresham, Oregon.
Upon arriving in Seattle,
we
will procure vans, have breakfast, and proceed to Safeco Field in Seattle for a
tour of the Seattle Mariners' home stadium.
On Saturday, there is plenty of time for sight-seeing, even a side trip to Lake Chelan.
The Angels play a Saturday twilight doubleheader against the AppleSox. We depart Wenatchee early Sunday morning for a long drive to Gresham, Oregon. We have a game at Mt. Hood Community College at 1pm against the Mt. Hood Cardinals. We have a quick meal in downtown Gresham, then drive to the Portland Airport to drop the vans off and fly home Sunday night.
We fly because while Wenatchee is a three-hour drive from Seattle, Wenatchee is a 16-hour drive from San Francisco.
This is the first of two planned plane trips for the Angels during the 2004 regular summer season. Players pay a $200 travel fee which helps cover the airfare and other costs of the Wenatchee trip and helps with the vans and lodging on overnight trips to Salinas, Arcata, Santa Barbara, and San Diego.
The Angels will fly out early Friday morning and return via Portland on Sunday evening: Alaska Airlines Departure: Friday June 4, 7:00am, Flight #357 from San Francisco (SFO) to Seattle-Tacoma (SEA) Meet at 5:30 am at Alaska Airlines. Return: Sunday June 6, 9:05pm, Flight#2475 from Portland (PDX) to San Francisco
The competition on this trip will
prepare the team for the very tough road trips, a non-stop cascade of long
weekend tournaments and games in front of abusive crowds (when we play the
Humboldt Crabs), from mid-June into early August.

The Travel Director says, "You know, come to think of it- and I rarely do-, there's nothing more delicious than the taste of a plump, ripe, fleshy Washington apple!"
Postcards and colorful box labels (such as Headline Apples at top of page) can be purchased at the Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center in downtown Wenatchee.
